Crimes and Passions

All the times that we turned quiet They couldn’t cure nor heal The medicine of your infectious smile Now only harms with what it reveals And I can’t take it no more, this quickness of heart My thoughts in constant strain I can’t let go of that knock on my door Still trying to feel the peace that silence brings Crimes of passion just don’t cut it no more Fits and fashions show the silence we wore - we’ve never felt this before You spoke your final quiet words Where only silence speaks I’m deafened by that piercing look in your eyes And muted by the pain they conceal No, I can’t take it no more, this shrillness of mind The emptiness I feel And I won’t ever hear your steps on my floor I’m crying to fill the quietness you leave Crimes of passion Just don’t cut it no more Fits and fashions show the silence we wore For crimes of passion They just don’t cut it nor more Fits and fashions, show the silence we wore We’ve never felt this before Our crimes of passion just don’t cut it no more Fits and fashions, we show the silence we wore and bring a brightness to love

Still Life 03:46
Still. I hold you in my arms Life. frozen in our eyes Feeling alive again Figures held dreaming Figures lie asleep The magic of gravity I’m down again, here in still life Still life A brilliant disguise Or a trick of the light? Still life A quiet lightness held inside Held in our eyes Still life A voiceless darkness held inside It’s there in your eyes Hues of brown and green and gold Form an image in our soul Feeling alive again (alive again) Light, reflecting in our eyes Light and darkness held inside Being alive again Alive again held in still life Still life A brilliant disguise Or a trick of the light? Still life A perfect likeness held inside Held in your eyes It’s alright, that quiet longing locked inside Will be satisfied Just give it time Oh give it time Still life A perfect likeness held inside A brilliant disguise

Lift 02:58
We laugh to survive And worry well Accept this hell Look for the reasons why And question how We even try Lift up your arms now My one forever friend - defend A revolution Is close at hand, we stand You come so naturally Unconsciously To your desires In, in flow the streams Body and mind Rest and repeat Lift up your heart now My true and fearless friend - ascend Our absolution Is close at hand, we stand Leave the world behind And find safe shelter There’s so much to say In our safe-harbor Flying colors proud That give protection Here together there’ll be no retreat We’re the only ones True timeless friends We'll write another chapter that never ends We only need each other to be complete So come and find here a refuge with me Knowing we could be everything

She glides across an ocean Skirting a virus and a storm And you never thought that the best was yet to come She slides into her lifestyle Bringing the best you’ve never known No you never thought it could only get better She stands you up tall It’s now or never She’s bringing it all In lace and leather She’s bringing it all She’s bringing it all together, all together You didn’t see it coming A side of you you’ve never shown You didn’t want for nothing Until that something else was worn And you never thought that the best was yet to come No you never thought it could only get better She stands you up tall Then puts you down to take the fall She’s bringing it all For every gift returns your call She’s bringing it all She’s bringing it all together, all together She stands you up tall It’s now or never She’s bringing it all In lace and leather She’s bringing it all She’s bringing it all together, pain and pleasure All together (huh)

I’m new to the scene So full of wonder So much to glean I cannot hesitate Won’t fear the outcome Don’t dare to wait I’ve come to this place With eyes wide open While tempting fate Embrace a give and take Deep in the moment Differences fade You’re new to the scene Fresh from the package Still have that sheen Feel so awake Forget the borders We’ll crash the gates But change, all this change Has left me nervous Out of the game Beyond the give and take You walked me here Right to the brink Stay, leave is the choice you make Forgiving all the rules we break If now is too soon, we’ll go back where we started Find all we need to embrace Our great escape The give and take We turned from the hate So clear of mind No longer ache Rise up; it’s not too late A new adventure A leap of fate Change, inspired change Without reflection Can’t break the chain Become the give and take I’ll meet you there Right at the brink Stay leave is the choice you make Forgiving all the rules we break If now is too soon, we’ll go back where we started Finding it’s there in your hands To hold and let go (ohhh) If now is too soon, we’ll go back where we started Finding it’s all worth the wait Our great escape The give and take

about

The Heroic Enthusiasts’ Crimes and Passions—the second of their two EPs released in 2022 on Meridian/ECR Music Group––arrives December 2nd, with its lead single “Still Life” out now.

“Crimes and Passions is essentially ‘Side 2’ of our new album,” explains guitarist and songwriter Thomas Ferrara. “‘Side 1’ was the EP we released in June, Fits and Fashions, and its five songs provided an introduction and an opportunity to glimpse who we are as a band: one that pulls from 80’s-based nostalgia and turns it into something modern.”

In contrast with—and to complement—that first EP, Crimes and Passions is a collection of five inspired, vibrant and spontaneous songs, meant to take the listener on a journey that conveys emotions—sweet and savory, light and moody, new and refreshing.

The EP’s first single, “Still Life,” and its hypnotic and addictive mosaic of melody, lyrics, and rhythms holds special meaning for singer and songwriter James Tabbi. “The song is an imagining, a metaphor, of those aspects of a still-life painting reflected into a relationship. Two lovers feeling the lightness and darkness of love, feeling alive, knowing the feelings and emotions will ebb and flow, and sadly, someday end as all of nature does, in death.”

The Heroic Enthusiasts’ now well-established musical partnership with co-producer Stephen Hague (New Order, Peter Gabriel, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys) continues with “Still Life,” and this second EP. That partnership began with an auspicious introduction. “So much of what I’m sent these days is basically beats with hooks, but the Heroic’s stuff was a breath of fresh air,” says Hague. “When I first heard their demos, I was taken by their song-craft and musicality. After a couple of introductory phone conversations with Thomas and James, I knew and said, ‘Buckle up boys, I’m joining the team.'”

Hague, who has produced and recorded some of the most iconic pop music of the past half-century did, in fact, join the team—comprised of James Tabbi and Thomas Ferrara—to forge the collection of tracks on Fits and Fashions.
