On heavenly rain You fell into my life Unforgettable smile Unforgettable lies In the name of the cross Or a banner of love With the hand of a friend Or under a blanket of trust The angels sighed A little girl cried The tears run rings around my eyes We're going to set fire To the house in my heart We're going to set fire To the whole damn world I don't understand The wicked things we do In the name of the good In the name of the few The angels sighed The little girl cried The tears run rings around my eyes And I've got to stop running To make my start We've got to get together Before we fall apart (fall apart) Don't look at me With your innocent smile When the bed is burning Around my head When a war breaks out It'll be no surprise Your unforgettable smile Your unforgettable lies (your eyes) They're pulling down the old slums To build the new They're bringing back the old rules To please the few In the name of the cross Or a banner of love With the hand of a friend Or under a blanket of trust Pull down the old slums To build the new Pull down the love I built with you Promise of tomorrow You never kept And you try to burn the house down When I slept And I've got to stop running To make my start We've got to get together Before we fall apart

It's A Sin 04:09
When I look back upon my life It's always with a sense of shame I've always been the one to blame For everything, I long to do No matter when or where or who Has one thing in common, too It's a sin. It’s a sin. Everything I've ever done Everything I ever do Every place I've ever been Everywhere I'm going to - It’s a sin At school, they taught me how to be So pure in thought and word and deed They didn't quite succeed For everything, I long to do No matter when or where or who Has one thing in common, too It's a sin. It’s a sin. Everything I've ever done Everything I ever do Every place I've ever been Everywhere I'm going to Father, forgive me, I tried not to do it Turned over a new leaf then tore right through it Whatever you taught me I didn't believe it Father, you fought me 'cause I didn't care And I still don't understand So I look back upon my life Forever with a sense of shame I've always been the one to blame For everything, I long to do No matter when or where or who Has one thing in common, too It's a sin. It’s a sin. Everything I've ever done Everything I ever do Every place I've ever been - it's a sin

about

“There’s no such thing as coincidence” seems to be a recurrent theme for The Heroic Enthusiasts since embarking on their now acclaimed recording career with Meridian/ECR Music Group. Continuing their collaboration with their legendary producer, the duo’s star is on the rise—and they’re far from content to rest on recent laurels. The story of that collaboration is indeed one of both coincidence and fate, and has manifested itself with The Heroic Enthusiasts’ new release “Tears Run Rings” out October 3rd.

“When Soft Cell’s Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret came out in 1981 we were innocent young lads,” says The Heroic Enthusiasts’ lead-singer James Tabbi. “We started hearing ‘Tainted Love’ and ‘Where Did Our Love Go’ in all the clubs, at different times, in different cities.” Guitarist Thomas Ferrara adds, “It was a magical awakening—a whole fresh and beautiful world opened up for us in lyrics, instrumentation, and production.”

Fast-forward to today: when music production company Coitus Interruptus offered The Heroic Enthusiasts the opportunity to cover a Soft Cell/Marc Almond track, the duo took up the challenge, with Tabbi choosing “Tears Run Rings.” “The song aligns perfectly with The Heroic Enthusiasts’ predilection for love song lyrics with a dark and political bent,” explains Tabbi.

The duo asked their legendary producer Stephen Hague (producer of New Order, Erasure, Peter Gabriel, Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Blur, Robert Palmer, Pretenders, and of course, Pet Shop Boys) to collaborate with them on the project and to work on how to make the song, and this new recording, their own. “We wanted to pay respect to the original, while also making it ‘Heroic,’” says a smiling Ferrara. “With Stephen’s iconic experience in New Wave, Post-Punk, and Synth-Pop, his mix and production expertise went beyond expectation.”
